Shea butter has been used from ancient times, particularly in the time before the Middle Ages. Shea Butter is derived from an indigenous, naturally occurring African tree that has a little fruit with a nut inside that resembles an almond. The nut, which takes 40–50 years to develop, is separated from the fruit that has fallen, after which the butter is boiled and allowed to float to the top.
