Lower doses (4 to 6 mg) are common for general antioxidant support.     A: Astaxanthin has unique structural advantages over other antioxidants: it spans cell membranes (most antioxidants are either fat- or water-soluble but not both), it does not become a pro-oxidant at high doses (vitamin E and beta-carotene can), and laboratory free-radical-quenching assays place it 6000 times more potent than vitamin C, 800 times beta-carotene, and 75 times CoQ10.     A: Possibly very slightly, in a positive way. Astaxanthin is a red-pink carotenoid; high doses over many months may give skin a subtle warm undertone — similar to mild healthy-looking pinkish glow. Unlike beta-carotene which can produce noticeable orange palms and soles, astaxanthin rarely causes obvious skin discoloration at standard doses. Many users actually find their skin tone improves cosmetically with sustained use, in addition to the photoprotection that reduces UV-induced redness.
