SKU: 901020

Country Life Potassium provides 99 mg of potassium gluconate per tablet — the FDA-allowed maximum for over-the-counter potassium supplements. Potassium is essential for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, heart rhythm, and blood pressure regulation. Many American diets fall short of the 4,700 mg adequate intake. The 250-tablet bottle is a long-lasting supply. Certified Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Kosher.

A: The FDA limits over-the-counter potassium supplements to 99 mg per tablet because higher doses can cause acute gastrointestinal damage in concentrated form. The body needs about 4,700 mg of potassium daily — far more than any single supplement provides. Most potassium needs are met from food (bananas, leafy greens, beans, sweet potatoes, dairy). A 99 mg supplement is meant as a small daily booster, not as primary potassium intake.

A: Strongly preferred: food. A medium banana provides about 420 mg, a baked potato 925 mg, a cup of cooked spinach 840 mg — far more than any supplement and with the cofactors that improve potassium balance (magnesium, fiber). Use this supplement as a small top-up, not as primary intake. People on diuretics or with documented low potassium should be guided by their doctor on dosing.

A: Caution required. Potassium can interact dangerously with ACE inhibitors (lisinopril), ARBs (losartan), potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone), and certain heart medications — these all raise blood potassium and adding a supplement on top can lead to hyperkalemia, a serious cardiac risk. Always discuss potassium supplementation with your doctor if you take any cardiovascular or kidney-related medications.
